The new car smell in your car comes from 50+ chemicals. This aroma is actually made up of a mix of chemicals that are contained in the various car interior features. Some of these features release volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The five most common VOCs are: Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Styrene, Xylenes, and Trimethylbenzene. This odor decays about 20 percent every week, so the smell doesn't linger all that long.

The use of these treadwheels was abolished in Britain by the Prisons Act of 1898. It resurfaced in 1913 with a U.S. patent for a “training-machine.”
